International Scientific and Practical Seminar "Resilient Institutions and Resilient Communities"

On December 11-12th, the International Scientific and Practical Seminar "Resilient Institutions and Resilient Communities" was held in Krakow. The event was a part of a joint research project of the Ukrainian Catholic University and the University of Notre Dame (USA), "Strengthening and Understanding Resilient Institutions and Small Communities in Ukraine."

The seminar was prompted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The war has created a particularly unfavorable environment in Ukraine that has forced people and social systems to show resilience. The seminar presented the research project results and the case studies of resilience conducted by international colleagues from Austria, Croatia, Poland, and the United States.

The main focus of the discussion during the event was based on two issues:

1. What do case studies/research projects tell us about the resilience of communities and institutions?

2. How can we strengthen the resilience of social systems?

Natalia Yakymets, Roksolana Makar, Olga Mykytchyn, Justyna Zahartovska, Maria Skoropad, Yana Kryger, Olena Bilan, and Nadiya Bodrevych were the participants from Ukraine. They presented the resilience experience of four institutions: the Ukrainian Catholic University, the Voices of Children (NGO), the Emmaus Center, and the Ukrainian Heritage Monitoring Lab (NGO).
